Lighting a New Chapter for Kernel Wealth

When Catalyst Group set out to design Kernel Wealth’s new workplace inside the former BNZ headquarters at 125 Queen Street, the vision was clear: let the building’s history lead, and let everything else respond to it.

Lighting had a specific role within that vision. Support the character of the space, serve the people inside it, and add warmth and intention without overpowering what was already there.

The building’s contrasting conditions shaped our approach from the start. Natural light floods in along the heritage facade, while the deeper recesses of the floorplate needed something more considered. Rather than treating the space uniformly, we designed a layered scheme that responds to each zone on its own terms.

Across the open plan workspace, Tyke luminaires bring clean, focused light to where Kernel’s team spends most of their day. Grace Compose ties the floor together with a calm, consistent quality that lets the interior design breathe. In the kitchen communal hub and elevator hallway, the FluxxLED UDON system was used to bring a discreet but inviting illumination.

When a design has real intention behind it, lighting becomes less about solving problems and more about adding to something already well considered. That is exactly what this project felt like.
