Lighting a New Home for Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance

When Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance moved into Level 33 of the ANZ Centre in Auckland, they brought with them a clear vision: a workspace that honours their global identity while feeling genuinely at home in Aotearoa. Our lighting designers worked closely with STACK Interiors to bring that vision to life through a lighting scheme that supports both the elegance of the client-facing spaces and the everyday humanity of the working environment.

A Space with a View, and a Feeling to Match

Perched above the Waitematā Harbour, the front-of-house areas set a calm, refined tone from the moment you arrive. The arrival lounge, hosting kitchen, and boardroom each carry a sense of place, with rich tonal blues and harbour-edge character threading through the interior design. Lighting here needed to feel considered and intentional, not incidental.

In the boardroom, Lightnet Basic Deco L3 recessed luminaires complimented with the new Grace Thrive recessed lights deliver a clean, focused quality that supports the gravitas of the space without overpowering it. In the welcome and circulation areas, the Lightnet Liquid Line GX brings a fluid visual rhythm that guides people through the space with ease and warmth.

Meeting Rooms Built for People

Meeting rooms are where a lot of the real work happens, and where lighting has a direct impact on how people feel and perform. Across these spaces, our team specified Grace Compose 2 Lens Downlights alongside the new Grace Thrive recessed downlights in both fixed and adjustable formats. 

Grace Thrive Wallwasher recessed downlights extend into the kitchen space too, adding a layer of soft, even light that makes the room feel alive. In select meeting rooms, Lightnet Matric-R9 Pendants add a touch of warmth and visual interest overhead.

Open Plan, Open Minds

The open plan workspace is where most of BHSI’s people spend their time, and it called for lighting that could hold a consistent, comfortable quality across a large footprint. Grace Balance panel lights were specified throughout, offering calm, diffuse illumination that reduces glare and supports sustained concentration. The result is an environment where people can settle in, think clearly, and do their best work.

Connection at the Core

The staff café and lounge round out the space, offering a place to pause, recharge, and connect. Across every zone, the lighting works in service of the people using it, never drawing attention to itself, but always making the experience of being there feel right.

This project is a testament to what happens when lighting design is treated as an integral part of the interior vision from the very start. Working alongside STACK Interiors, we found solutions that serve the space, the brand, and most importantly, the people inside it.
