Lighting Spark Manukau at Westfield

When Spark set out to open a new store at Westfield Manukau, the brief went well beyond a standard retail fit-out. This was a space designed to feel genuinely connected to the community it sits within, warm, welcoming and deeply rooted in the identity of Manukau itself.

Working alongside Adrian Nancekivell Design, we specified a lighting solution that could hold its own within a space rich in cultural storytelling and thoughtful materiality.

The store centres around a beautiful floating timber ceiling feature, with the Lightnet Liquid Line taking front and centre as the hero illumination piece. Grace Thrive Wallwashers draw light across products and shelving, while Grace Thrive Recessed Downlights keep the environment consistent and comfortable throughout. FluxxLED UDON lights add a layer of accent lighting around the product shelving and the seating hub, bringing warmth and depth to every corner.

At the heart of the store sits a stunning community mural celebrating the identity, history and people of Manukau. Birds, weaving, flowers, transport, education, waka, Rainbow’s End and ripples, each element a love letter to the place and its people. Lighting this space meant lighting all of that, creating a hub where people genuinely want to pause, gather and connect.

Retail lighting at its best is about more than product visibility. When light is designed around people and the story a space is trying to tell, it becomes part of the experience itself.
